Start with official information
We prioritize government, municipal, and European Union pages. Guide summaries are plain-language orientation; the linked authority controls the official process.
Local instructions stay local
A Berlin, Bavaria, or Madrid page can explain that place’s procedure. It should not be treated as a national rule. We label those examples where they appear.
Check your personal route
Nationality, family links, work, study, and residence can change requirements. Use the planner for orientation, then confirm high-stakes questions with the relevant authority or a qualified adviser.
What a source entry tells you
Each source entry gives the name of the page, a link to it, and its scope: what the source is used to support in the guide. Some sources provide only background, such as population figures, and are marked as context rather than procedure.
The kinds of sources we use
National government portals and immigration services; municipal service pages for registration appointments and documents; legislation and official gazettes for legal requirements; European Union portals for cross-border rights; and, for background only, official statistics.
What a review date means
A review date means we compared the guide with its linked sources on that day. It is not a guarantee that nothing has changed since, and it does not mean an authority has approved the guide. When a source changes, we update the guide and its date.
When sources differ
If a national page and a local page differ, the office that will process your case decides the procedure. If an English page and a translation differ, check the official page in its original language.
